This is the Eighth Annual Journeys of Migration, held each year as part of International Week at Western University. This event will begin with a screening of The Mosque: A Community’s Struggle. This documentary is an intimate portrait of the resilient Muslim community of Sainte-Foy, Quebec as they struggle to survive and shift the narrative of what it means to be a Muslim and how to fight Islamophobia, one year after the devastating attack that took the lives of six of their members. We will then hold a panel discussion and a Q&A with the producer, a documentary interviewee and two members of the London community about the implications for our community and Canada as a whole.
Panel Members:
- Hanny Hassan, Longtime Volunteer in Muslim Community, Interfaith and Broader Society Organizations
- Rumina Morris, Director, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression, City of London
- Sergeo Kirby, Documentary Producer
- Mathieu Lajante, Documentary Interviewee
This Event is presented by the Western Centre for Research on Migration and Ethnic Relations, Collège Boréal, the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership, the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre, the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre, and Pillar Nonprofit Network
